Abandoned school- College Corner

Abandoned school- College Corner

This is the third photoshoot I did of an abandoned school. Unlike the other two, this was a relatively recent closure.

Perhaps because of that, I could still hear the children playing. Backed up to Indiana farmland, the wind whistled across the empty fields.

The sounds of children once joined in that daily song.

It was sad to see the swings moving in the breeze. The rusting hinges still calling out…come, swing with me.

Play is a rich, vital component of children’s learning. There will be no more playing here, but if you listen in the wind? Their laughter and games can still be heard.

Or maybe, it is our own memories creating an illusion.

It is our own childhood selves that we remember. Legs pumping the swings, urging it to go higher, higher.

Feeling the exhilaration of making to the top of the monkey bars, swinging back and forth.

Now, the bell will call children back to class no longer. Its reverberating gong silenced.

What is the story you feel when you look at these pictures? Leave a comment and share…

  1. I swung on those swings, and hung from those monkey bars. It’s sad to drive by my old school and see the over grown grass. 🙁
The original College Corner school house is right across the street still standing, tho it’s kind of creepy!

    1. Dani, any idea when they closed it down? It looks like a wonderful place to have a school. I did a shoot of the old school across the street for my May newsletter. Definitely kind of creepy! Even though it was easy to find with the trees still bare, when the foliage comes in I imagine the place is almost invisible from the street

      1. I also went to school at college corner in closed down in the late 90s early 2000s, I believe. I am almost positive I was in late middle school or early high school at the time and I graduated in 2006. I have some very fond memories of that school. The teachers and principal were wonderful but most of all the memories and friendships made. Some have lasted a lifetime and for that I am thankful. I can still find old pictures of myself and my friends playing on that playground. I remember swinging as high as we could to see who could launch themselves the farthest and falling off the jungle gym more than once! Such a wonderful school. I was so sad to see the doors close for good.

        1. I went to elementary school in the 70’s. I recently drove by my old house on a visit home and passed my own school. It has changed so much, but the kids were out playing and laughing. I watched them swing and climb my favorite tree…so odd and wonderful

      2. Hi Christa – I’m another proud CC alum. Closing the school was mostly due to local politics, the superintendent wanted to build bigger state of the art elementary schools so she refused to do the necessary maintenance and upgrades to keep the smaller community schools open. Anderson has a lot of these abandoned buildings now and three brand new mega elementary schools…it’s sad to see what has been lost in the name of “progress.”

      3. My children went to College Corner. I do believe they closed after the school ended 2005. So many children held so many holsum memories that will last them through their lifetime. It was an awesome school and wonderful teachers and staff!

        Thanks for sharing!

      4. Proud to say I graduated the 5th grade of the last year College Corner was open in 2005. Mr. Welch was my teacher that year, and I attended all 5 years. As did my mother (Bridgette Reynolds-Ulery), uncle (Christopher “Shane” Ulery), grandmother (Edna “Marie” Sharp-Ulery, and my aunt (Cindy Sharp-Hauser). I recently drove past last weekend and was brought to tears by all the wonderful memories. Talked my husbands ear off about how great and beautiful of a school it was. The inside brick walls were painted in beautiful murals of story books. I wanted so badly to stop and roam around the courts but sadly was differed by a truck parked by the front entrance. I love my elementary school and will never forget College Corner. GO HORNETS!!!

  2. The time spent at college corner was the best time if my life. Was an amazing school with caring faculty unlike today’s schools. Miss that place.

  3. From your pictures it looks like it’s a beautiful place to have a school, kinda makes me feel sad to see it abandoned like that. It gives me a slightly desolate feeling.

  4. I too went to college corner. I’m still friends with almost everyone I was in class with. My best friends then k-5 are still my best friends to this day. The school closed in 2004 or 2005. I know I was in middle school when it was shut down. It’s a sad thing to see because that playground is a warm reminder of my childhood. It’s depressing to see it run down and abandoned.

    1. That is awesome about the good friends! We aren’t from here, but one thing we noticed when we moved here, most people grew up together. Very different from where I was and people came in and out a lot. I am glad for the good part of your memories, it must be bittersweet to see it like this

  5. I loved College Corner. It was a great school with great teachers. The school across the street was also College Corner before this building was built. The closing of the neighborhood schools is a tragedy of American education. The school has been closed for at least 15 years.

      1. The closing was all about cut backs and costs to maintain the smaller school buildings. The end result cost more in relation to substandard academics. The teachers and students were the ones negatively impacted. The built the big elementary school Scatterfield road which when it first opened, could not accommodate the amount of students, my daughter was transferred to 3 different schools within 45 days due to that. It was rough on the students. The combined high schools and moved the middle school. It was a hot mess. Not much better to date.

      2. It was closed due to contaminated water constantly causing us to use water jugs and asbestos on the outside brick.

  6. This is awesome! Makes me tear up a bit. Some of the best times of my life were here. Like Sam, I’m still friends with almost everyone I went to school with from here. I went from 1994-2000. I loved that school. None of the schools from that time are open anymore. They built a bunch of “super schools” and closed all of the small ones. They’re just empty buildlings around Anderson. GREAT pictures! Brings back incredible memories.

    1. That explains a lot to me, I wondered why there were so few schools for such a large geographical area. I’m so glad you experienced happy memories with these pics, they were wonderful to take

  7. I am noticing several new names commenting today, I’d LOVE to hear how you came across this post today? Welcome, if you are interested in signing up for my newsletter at the top right, I did a shoot of the old school also. It’ll come to you vie email.

Thanks for taking time to leave comments, it is the first time I’ve done one of my Abandoned America photo series, that I’ve had such personal response from people who know this place. I understand the power of pictures, a few weeks ago I did a series about my grandma’s childhood home. Every picture was a memory, the power of photography!

  8. I taught at College Corner for 33 years – third grade. What a wonderful placed it was! Still have great memories of the faculty and all the students who also loved the place. Was so nice to be out in the country away from all the city noise. I had retired when it closed, but went back for the closing ceremony and reconnected with many students and faculty, Thanks for sharing this.

    1. Jane, you have a careers worth of memories there! Thank you for checking these out. The closing ceremony must have been bittersweet. I really enjoyed the country atmosphere as well

    2. I cannot believe I’m reading a post from my favorite teacher at CC – Ms. Gangwer. 3rd grade. Early 80’s….
      Now THAT makes me smile…

      1. This is amazing! I’m sitting here reading all of these stories (and recognize alot of names) it’s bringing back so many memories. Ms. Ganger was my 3rd grade teacher in 1995-1996 she was suxh a great teacher . Field Day was always a blast, so much fun packed into one day. Thank you for taking the time to check out our little country school. The one room school house across the street in the woods is the original college corner.
        Go Hornets!

      1. Bob,
I had your mom for 3rd grade! That would have been in 1970-71. I remember a lot of things about her classroom. We made life-size Indians (sorry, PC term is Native Americans) to sit in our seats on Parent-Teacher conference night, and we made a HUGE mural that covered most of the back wall of an Indian village. I got in trouble because I colored one of the Indians red, which made perfect sense to me because back then we called them redskins. The thing I remember most are the musical multiplication table records that she played to help us learn our facts. I still hear those songs when I’m multiplying things in my head! She was a great teacher and I’m grateful to all of the teachers at CC. We were fortunate to have such a dedicated group of educators. By the way, my mom taught 3rd grade at North Anderson from 1968-88.

    3. I was in the last fifth grade class that was there before they closed it down in 2005. I had moved to Alexandria Schools not to long before the end of the year and my mom decided to let us finish out the year because it was such an amazing school. So many memories. Made tons of friends that I still keep in touch with today. I can still picture the hallways filled with kids. It wouldn’t have been so amazing if it wasn’t for the teachers and staff like Mrs. Gangwer! So sad to see it go.

    4. Miss Gangwer! Oh. How wonderful of a 3rd grade teacher you were. I appreciate you sooo much for everything you did to help me in a rough time in my life as a child, and also accepting me with my learning disabilities including hearing disabilities. You were always so lovely and made me feel like I could accomplish anything! Thank you so much! <3

    5. Mrs. Gangwer. It is so wonderful to see you on here. I will never forget my third grade class with you. After moving from another part of town, you made my new school feel like home. You, along with all my other teachers at College Corner, hold a special place in my heart.

    6. Mrs. Gangwer! I was in your class in 1984-85. You are part of what made College Corner such a great school for me. Thank you so much!

    7. Mrs. Gangwer was an amazing 3rd grade teacher. Third grade was the first year that I really felt I “got” what school was all about–Mrs. Gangwer had a lot to do with that. That had to be 1980/81. College Corner was an amazing school with a staff that genuinely cared about the students and learning. Needless to say I was kind of crushed to see a place so full of warm memories closed down. I haven’t lived in Anderson (or Indiana) for 30 years now, so the nostalgia is strong to say the least.

    8. Jane,

I do believe you were my 3rd grade teacher back in 1992-1993.

      Christa,

I think you have some wonderful pictures of an old school with a lot of memories! I lived attending College Corner and I just went back this past weekend for the reunion. Loved seeing it again.

  9. Mrs. Gangwer, Mrs. Parshall, Mr. Welch were some of the best teachers ever! Some of my favorite childhood memories were at this school. I loved College Corner. My 2 sisters and myself went there. I drive by it a few times a month, perhaps, and it saddens me a bit. I can ask remember where everything was inside that school. But it also gives me hope that my kids will one day share the same feeling…such a tiny school with so many fun memories. Field day was absolutely amazing. The school was full of teachers who LOVED their job…that’s all that mattered.

    1. Thanks for sharing your memories Tiffany, maybe you’d like to share this post with your sisters? Oh, I had forgotten about Field days! I hope they still do that with kids today

  10. College Corner was a wonderful school filled with so many memories. I recently got the chance to tour the school and a flood of memories came back to me. I had so many wonderful teachers that truly loved their job and the students that filled the classrooms. College Corner has a special place in my heart.

    1. Elizabeth, what was it like inside? Empty? I hope that can find a new purpose for it

      1. Hi Christa,

The building was sold a few years ago with the intent of turning it into apartments. That’s yet to happen, but the new owner is taking residence in it, I believe.

        1. Christa, the entire school is covered in murals that the students and faculty helped create. Even with the school being mostly empty (although someone is currently using it as a residence and it is currently for sale), it is so wonderful to see all the artwork that made it a very happy, cozy, comfortable school that was full of energy and passion.

          1. I painted on a couple of those murals. One in the cafeteria and another sea life one. I would love to go inside and check those out again. So many great memories!

  11. I went to College Corner 🙂 such familIe pictures although the swings were in better shape back then. Wow. I love seeing this! It’s such a cute country school and would be the perfect place/opportunity to use it for another school or business

  12. My daughter, who is a sophomore in high school, went to College Corner in kindergarten. I was so happy she got to go to a country school. After we moved, we weren’t allowed to drive by the school because she would cry. My grandfather went to the old College Corner across the street.

    1. I totally understand, we moved many times and went through the same type of thing. What a cool connection for them to have! If you want to sign up at the top for my May newsletter, it has the pictures I took the same day at the old Corner college. Thanks for visiting!

  13. My parents still live just up the road and every time I come back to visit,I see those sad sights. I played first grade kissing tag on that blacktop, broke up with a 5th grade boyfriend by the monkey bars, and practiced softball in the grass. I made many friendships and I loved that school.

  14. I loved this school so much! I grew up right down the road where my grandparents still live today. I drive by almost everyday and wish it would reopen. I remember every teacher and ever person who worked there! The people here made a life long impression on my life and some of the best childhood memories i have are at college corner! Im still very close to a lot of people i went to school with … wish they would do a reunion!

  15. I remember College Corner. I had just moved to Indiana from California for my 4th grade year and thought it was so odd how the school was so small in comparison to my old school.
I admit though, I loved this school. It was small and the teachers were wonderful. Its sad to see that the school closed. Both my sister and I went there and now neither of us live in the area but we always remember the times we had there.

  16. These photos are a wonderful reminder of so many childhood memories! I met my husband in kindergarten, had some of the most caring teachers, and met lifelong friends here. From all of the awesome paintings on the walls to being excited for the huge parachute to come out for gym day, college corner certainly has a special place in my heart! Thanks for sharing!

  17. The pics are very powerful. I wish you could have seen the inside. The murals and gym were amazing. I’m sure that if you had the opportunity to do an inside shoot, you would be so lost in the moment that time would so run away from you!

  18. College Corner was amazing! The teachers were so wonderful and caring! The pic of the four square! brings back the best memories! I was there in 1978-1984 I am still best friends with a girl I was in kindergarten with 🙂 Now I am 41 yrs old and still friends with half the class or more! College Corner will always be in my heart! I drove by the other day and made me so sad! It is up for sale I would love to buy it and make it into something that people could visit! Thanks for the amazing pics and making me smile!!!

  19. The old College Corner one room schoolhouse was built in 1884. The “new” building I believe was constructed in the ’20s. Several additions were made to the new structure over the years. The 2004-2005 school year was our fian year at College Corner. The school had over a 120 year history and they closed it! I was privileged to have taught there for 22 years, from the fall of 1982 until it closed in June 2005. The environment at that school was that of one happy family. Every teacher was amazing and the staff got along extremely well. The parents were involved and so supportive. The students were eager to learn and a pleasure to work with. I cried when I learned they were closing down our school, and it makes me sad to this day because I know what an excellent school it was.
In warm weather we would open all the doors and windows and catch the cross breeze coming across the field. We didn’t need air conditioning! Teachers would take classes out in the yard and sit under the trees to do lessons.mi remember the eclipse of the sun…. we took our students outside to fully experience it. They were instructed cautiously, and being the great kids that they were, we had no problems. I remember standing with Judy McFarland’s class and looking at how the shadow of the leaves on the trees were actually crescent shaped shadows on the ground, due to the eclipse. It was odd and amazing and a day I will never forget. I regret not taking my children tonschool with me that day, because they went to school in Lapel and the teachers there were ordered to pull the blinds and not to allow anyone outside for recess or any other reason that day. How sad that made me to know my children missed a once in a lifetime opportunity.
    So many memories…..

  20. I went to College Corner! My mom and dad live in the second house west of the school! My dad went to the one room school house. I loved being a hornet! We still have an old hornets sweatshirt and pennants too! A man lived in the school for a long time! Can you imagine having a school for a house? One of my favorite memories there was pioneer week with Mrs. Halsey in 4th grade, inside recess in the gym dancing to Thriller, playing kickball on the playground, and the spring carnival every year!

  21. Wow this is so sad. Some of my best childhood memories are from college corner!”! First friendships of our lives were made here. I loved my elementary school and I feel blessed to have been able to go to the BEST elementary school!! I wish it was still open so my children could go there.

  22. I started Kindergarten there in 1979. I went there all the way through fifth grade and then moved away after my parents divorced. The playground was a time of freedom for me, a place where I could just be me, just be a kid. This is the place where friendships were forged, endless childhood energy was spent, imaginations were developed. This is where we began our journeys in life.

  23. I too am a proud College Corner Alumn. And my grandfather attended the one room school house across the street. So many memories on that playground!!! Awesome article!!

  24. Spent the best years of my 39 year teaching career at CC. The kids were awesome, great families, sports programs, and awesome 4-square contests. I miss those fun times and the kids that went with them. It doesn’t get ant better than this!

    1. It is sad to see the school closed, but what great memories reading this string has brought me! Mr. Miller was one of my all-time favorite teachers, and Mrs. Turner helped me more than she will ever know. Seeing their names (and many others as well) is great!!!

    2. Mr. Miller, I was in your science class in 1983/84, I think it was the first year that the school started rotating teachers for the sixth graders so they could get used to the idea before middle school. You and the rest of the staff were some of the best teachers I ever had; kind of sad that my own kids–even though they are taught by caring professionals who do their best–missed such a close-knit experience.

  25. I went to College Corner from 1970-1972. During those years I believe it was part of Richland Township schools. In 1972 Anderson Community Schools absorbed it and other county schools, who decided to do some redistricting. I had to change schools and go to Hiawatha and North Anderson. But I do have such wonderful memories of College Corner. I remember doing a Christmas play in first grade and still remember my Kindergarten and first grade teachers (Mrs. Nottingham and Mrs. Scott). Thank you so much for sharing this because I do remember this wonderful playground. It’s so sad we’ve got away from neighborhood schools.

    1. I am Mrs. Marilyn Nottintgham’s daughter. She taught kindergarten at College Corner for many years in the outside portable buildings. She told me she had 40 kids in the morning & 40 kids in the afternoon.

  26. Loved seeing these pictures! College Corner was my first elementary (of several in the years that followed). I was there 1976-1979. I LOVED the playground and remember the swings and all of the buses lined up in the parking lot at the end of the day. Mrs. Scharnowski was my teacher and I LOVED her! I live outside of Phoenix now and miss those small country towns!

  27. I saw this posted on Facebook. I went to college corner, so many wonderful memories and lots of fun!! It was a great place to go to school and made lots of friends. Thanks for posting these!

  28. I also went to this school and loved it! The girls I went to school with here are still my best friends and we keep in touch on a regular basis! I have so many good memories of this school! Thank-you for taking these pictures and reminding many of us of our childhood.

  29. I see so many familiar names..Cari Sites, Mr. Miller and Mrs. Gangwer. College Corner was an magical little school. Like Cari, when I drive home to see my parents I drive by and the fond memories always flash through my mind. I was blessed to have attending CC and my children also attending CC. They were there the last year it was open in 2005. Some of my treasured friends are those that I went to school with at College Corner. It is a reminder of caring teachers, laughing children and neighborhoods that celebrated family. Hey…maybe we could get in a quick Cake Walk in Mr. Miller’s old room!?
PS – Brad Miller – THANKS for sharing!

  30. I went to College Corner as did 2 of my kids and it was the best school I attended!!! I still drive by it and the memories are bittersweet of a magical school where the teachers cared and you made lasting friendships. Mr Andrews retiring in the middle of our 6th grade year, Mrs. McFarland, Mr Meyers, Mr Reynolds, Mr. Miller, Mrs. Cunningham and so many more. Innocent times in an era where people still cared!!!!

  31. I was in the last class of 5th graders that got to graduate. Its so sad it’s gone. But I know our hand prints are still painted on that gymnasium wall. So Proud to have been able to go there. Mr. Welch and Mrs. Cunningham were the best teachers I ever had. Even if it was just elementary school.

  32. College corner was my first school. It was an amazing elementary school. Everyone was nice. I’ll never forget my teachers there. It was sad to see the school get shut down…

  33. I and 3 of my brothers went to CC. My Mom taught at the first CC with Mrs Woods and Mrs.McManus. There are a lot of fond memeries from those yeaars. 1954 thru 1959. In those days there were only 6 class rooms. twice a week the Music teacher would bring the piano to each room for music lessons. Lunch was $1.50 a week. I went back to visit family a few years ago, and went by there. Everything looked so small. Yet familiar

  34. My mother, Ruth Ferguson, was a teacher there. She was very proud of this. She always said that she was a “life long teacher”. She loved the students and watching their progress. She loved to watch their learning to reason, not just parrot rote details.

  35. I attended College Corner from ’78-’84. I have so many wonderful memories of the school, staff and students. We were incredibly blessed to attend a small country school with a closeness by all and everyone new each other. I remember kindergarten graduation, carnivals, field day, pioneer day, Witch Hazel, touring the one room school house along with playing basketball and track and riding my bike to school. Thank you to all staff and friends I met as I cherish those memories.

  36. Wonderful article, Christa! I, too, have a fascination with old, abandoned buildings. My elementary school is also abandoned. I believed it was closed in the late 90’s. I went there from Kindergarten to 6th grade back in the 70’s…so many wonderful memories. I would love to see you do an article on it as well. It is Park Place Elementary located in Park Place, Anderson, Indiana. I’m excited that I found your forum and looking forward to reading some more of your articles.

    1. Thanks Catherine, I am not familiar with that building. Is the street called Park Place?

      1. No, the area is Park Place,as well as the school. It’s the neighborhood behind Athletic Park and the old fairgrounds. I grew up on Ruddle Avenue which is one block from the school. It’s close to the university. Central Avenue runs to the north and south of it but I can’t remember the street that runs east and west of it. Okay, I just Googled it and the map shows E. 5th street as running east and west. See if this URL will work for you: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Park+Place+Elementary+School/@40.111442,-85.669373,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xf5bc50bd15499188

        1. The old Park Place Elementary is located behind Park Place Church. The building and grounds are now owned by the church and used for community events. It has been renamed Park Place Community Center. Here is the website: http://www.ppchog.org/communitycenter
I spent my last three years of elementary at PP. Such a great school!

  37. Christa…that was my old school:/ Those kids you heard were me and my friends in a time where the world seemed a lot safer and friendlier. To this day I am friends with most of my classmates from that time. It was a special school!

  38. Aubrea, yes I do remember you! Guess we never know what kind of impact we have on each other’s lives. So glad I was able to make third grade a year of fond memories! Hope all is well with you!

  39. These pictures are beautiful! They remind me of my childhood days growing up in Anderson. When I return home, I am saddened by the state of the town, how it has gone down over the years. I love to drive around and remember the 20 years I spent there!

  40. I attended College Corner from kindergarten through 6th grade. It really was a special place. It’s about halfway between the home I grew up in (where my parents still live) and where I live now. It’s not the most direct route, but I find myself taking it often… Just to hear those voices and see those sites…

The best day of elementary school had to be Pioneer Day. Fourth grade meant Indiana History and Pioneer Day. We got to dress up, tour the old one room school house across the street, dip candles, and be outside all day long. Best day ever!

(I found your post through a friend from CC. She shared the link on facebook.)

  41. Such fond memories from my childhood. I attended CC first grade through 6th when my family moved to Ohio in 1987. Such great teachers I won’t ever forget including Mr Miller, Mrs Gangwer, Ms Harvel….and old friends I have been lucky to connect with via facebook – Sarah, Leslie, Michelle, Christa and Krystal. I can see us all swinging and singing our hearts out “believe it or not I’m walking on air” — Thank you for the images.

  42. Would you believe someone let me look through boxes of old books today, and what should I find? An old book from College Corner school!

  43. 1986 alum. Remember every teacher and each classroom very well. Mrs Gangwer, Mrs Walker and principal Myers all provided a great foundation for educational growth. Very blessed to have been able to attend CC.

  44. I started at College Corner in 1950 – I think it may have been the opening year. I am very proud to say I was a Hornet! What good childhood memories.
Our wonderful, caring teachers were :
1st – Mrs Johnson (her husband was our mailman)
2nd – Mrs Derr (she lived across from the school and east a bit)
    3rd – Mrs McManus
    4th – Mrs Wood
    5th – Mrs Yost
6th – Mr Mesecher (also served as our school principal) I think he replaced Mr Teeters in that position.
Mr Pyle was our basketball coach – we played on the asphalt court in the above photo (no gymnasium). I think Mr Pyle was a volunteer coach – he was a college friend of Mr Mesecher at Anderson College.
My Grandad was the janitor. I remember my job was to run and bring “Grandad” to clean up when someone vomited (happened often with a class of 40 or 50)
I remember one day Dad let me drive the tractor to school (only a couple of miles). I must have missed the bus – can’t remember why….it was when I was older (11 or 12). Sure was a different world then.
I could write for hours about the great teachers, cooks, bus drivers, PTA projects, fall festivals, etc. The community was a close family of neighbors and friends.
I remember helping to paint the walls of the inside rooms one summer. Mr Mesecher had been asked to do the job and my siblings and I pitched in to help him. I am guessing the walls had no paint before that (just concrete blocks). The school was only 6 classrooms and a kitchen at the time, we ate lunch at our desks.
Mr Mesecher and his wife became close family friends and would come by our farm often in the summer evenings as Mom would call them to share the excess vegetables and eggs we had gathered. In winter, they would come out on Saturdays for Canasta/Euchre/coffee night with Golden Crust Donuts and cider about 10;00 pm. The men and a couple of us kids would make the “donut run” to Anderson. The donuts obviously didn’t all make it home….
It was great fun reading all the comments and reminiscing about the school, thanks to all…

  45. I had Mrs Wood for 1st Grade in 1966……I remember her telling the class that she had taught in the old school house across the street. We used to get out the pillows and listen to Verna on the radio at lunch!

  46. Proud College Corner alumni here. Graduated from 5th grade in 2000. Such a great school with so many good memories. It really made me want to go to school everyday. All of the teachers and staff were as friendly as could be and we just had so much fun. So sad to see it go because it was probably the best elementary school in Anderson. I know it was the best and that’s why I will always be proud to be a College Corner Hornet.

    1. You have many fellow students that share fond memories of this school, sounds like a great experience. Pioneer days are a draw to me, growing up in the west

  47. ***Update for all former College Corner Students and Staff! There will be a reunion on Saturday, June 16, 2016, from 3-7pm for everyone who has ever attended College Corner, for teachers, staff, families, and the community. The reunion will be a festival theme with a cake walk and other festival games. We’ll also be serving a chicken-and-noodle dinner. People may call Claire Strayer at 317-442-7742 with questions and to RSVP!

  48. Lmao you trespassed on my granpas’s house 😂😂 you could’ve just asked him if you wanted to take pictures he’s a nice guy. He hosted a reunion and has a rocket festival every year so I’m pretty sure it’s not abandoned but nice photos lmao.

    1. Hmm, I was only on the playground and wouldn’t purposefully trespassed had I seen indication of residence. Please extend my apologies to him

  49. How incredible to stumble upon this article. I graduated in 2000, and often recall times and memories here, from the murals on every wall throughout the building, to interior, from hallways to classrooms. I think what I recall most is the bond I feel we all shared, from teachers, to students, to staff. They impacted not only mine, but every student that attended.
There have been times, in my early 20s, when I’ve gone back, just to talk around the playground, and swing in the swings, and remember the best time in my life, with the group of people who left memories I will never forget.
