I wanted to share with you an idea from the archives. ..
Chalkboard paint is very stylish, and pumpkins make a fun display medium. My friend Lisa and I made a date to transform our gourds into welcome signs for the front porches.
It really is a 1,2,3 kind of project, perfect to do with kids or groups:
- Prepare the pumpkin by washing and lightly sanding with fine grit paper. This will help the paint adhere (trust me on this). There are several brands of chalkboard paint, we used Krylon
- Find a shape to trace. At first, I attempted to freestyle leaf shapes. It was a dismal fail, the surface was too bumpy. A quick trip outside produced a large leaf which worked much better to guide my brush
- Let the paint dry completely before writing on it with chalk. Otherwise, the paint might scrape off
A completed centerpiece for a large display, or a big welcome for even the smallest space is ready…
