17 Of My Favorite Books

Today kick’s off a new series. Easing into short videos each month, highlighting random things that top my list of loves. Expect fun. Quirky. Well, random…

Let’s start with books. It was impossible to narrow down to a top ten, and aren’t those overdone anyway?  For more book ideas, check out my post about reading 52 books in a year here.

Make sure to add YOUR favorites in the comments!

My favorite book

My number one favorite above all is Katrina by Sally Salminen. I read this as a girl from my grandmother’s bookshelf and it made such a lasting impression, I had to search for over a decade to find a copy in English.

Do you like to read books traditionally or on a device? I am team paper all the way ;).

“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.” ― Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

17 favorite books of the year

  1. Purse Driven Life by Anita Renfroe (not a book to read on a plane. I snorted Coke out of my nose. Awkward)
  2. Under The Overpass by Mike Yankoski (becoming homeless, on purpose)
  3. Ordinary Days by Dorcas Smucker (it took me three years to finish it, because I didn’t want it to end)
  4. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  5. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor (a childhood fave, please read before your kids do)
  6. 50 Days Of Heaven by Randy Alcorn
  7. A Far Piece To Canaan by Sam Halpern
  8. Nesting: It’s a chick thing by Ame Mahler Beanland (nesting is my thing, in a major way)
  9. Confessions of A Prayer Slacker by Diane Moody (ahh, I am not the only one)
  10. Walking On Broken Glass by Christa Allan
  11. Cold Tangerines by Shauna Niequist (another book I didn’t want to end)
  12. Dinner With A Perfect Stranger by David Gregory
  13. Life Artist by Ali Edwards
  14. I’ll Be Seeing You by Suzanne Hayes and Loretta Nyhan
  15. Sacred Rhythms: Arranging our lives for spiritual transformation by Ruth Haley Barton (prepare to be challenged)
  16. Three by Ted Dekker
  17. Anything by Laura Ingalls. If you don’t have the Little House set for your kids, it is phenomenal (and I reread as an adult!)

  1. I KNEW you’d have a whole bunch of books I haven’t read and now totally want to read! Thanks for this, dear friend. I have Shauna Niequist’s Bread and Wine and have been thinking it’s almost time to read that one. Also. The picture of you snorting Coke out your nose on an airplane made me almost snort. 😉 You’re awesome.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Christa 🙂 Your book moved me deeply, the content really helped me understand someone I love better
