Exploring Monterey on the California Coast- Photography

Welcome back to the Monterey coastline! Did you enjoy the marine life in Part One yesterday? If you missed it, click here.

Today’s photography will show you around Old Fisherman’s Wharf. It is refreshing to walk away from the tourist-centric pier and wander around where the real fisherman work.

You’ll find a surprise twist to this casual outing at the end… heartache turned to healing

The local history is quite a story, you can read about it here.  Spaniards explored this area seeking a safe harbor for their ships, beginning in early 1600’s!

And of course, there is much local history of the native parties that preceded them.

All within a walkable stroll, fine dining will draw you in. Check out the chowder if you come, or choose fresh scallops (I did!) and prepare to be amazed by the wonderful flavors.

Oh, how I miss living on the coast. Ours was a small fishing and logging town, and I always enjoyed watching the daily lives of men on the see and in the trees.

These pots and tools brought happy memories of exploring with my little girls, up the coast in Oregon.

So your turn- you’ve seen a place I love to be. There is one extra thing about this story I didn’t mention. Usually, my pictorial pieces are general interest. This one had a deeply personal meaning.

You see, this was the last trip I took with my father, in 1989. It didn’t end well and was the last time I saw him. Fast forward through the decades of mess there, and here I am with my husband.

Creating new memories over the old. Old memories reminding me there were good times on the last trip too. Healing began.

This visit, this journey up the California coast, is my Victory Lap.

A wrap, if you’ll allow me, of pieces that can’t otherwise be mended. This place of beauty won out and became a happy, joyful place to be.

My Father would have loved that ending ♥.

Shout out for my Dad, who loved the Mama’s and the Papa’s, a song for his favorite places
