Mt. Lemmon Sunset Photography: A Visual Desert Experience

Mt. Lemmon Sunset Photography: A Visual Desert Experience
The feeling was palpable—this Mt. Lemmon sunset photography session was going to be a sunset to remember. A gentle wind tickled my face as I leaned out the car window…a full embrace into the fresh air of a high elevation.
Mt. Lemmon sits above Tuscon, Arizona in the Santa Catalina mountains and has an elevation of 9,159 feet. The drive from a city below baking in the desert sun, the the crisp forest air in such a short amount of time is drastic (sometimes up to 30 degrees), and delightful. The Sky Island Scenic Byway is 28 miles, and even before the sunset, you’ll be impressed by the one of a kind rock formations.
Desert sunsets are memorable in themselves, with the vastness of the open sky. Even that said, occasionally the excitement of promise for a spectacular golden descent of the sun.

A Sunset to Remember
Maneuvering into a parking space, along with other sunset enthusiasts, lent itself to a festive air for this Mt. Lemmon sunset photography session. My camera lenses jostled in the backpack, as I hustled to the perfect spot with the tripod.
Time was of the essence.
God was about to put on a show that we’d not soon forget.

Capturing the Desert Sky
None of these are edited photos, Just the magnificence of a day’s closure. Pure and as they happened.
Enjoy the visual vacation…

If you love desert sunsets, this drive offers a perfect opportunity for photography and reflection.
The vastness of the sky here on Mt. Lemmon is unlike anything else in Arizona. Watching the sun dip below the horizon reminds me that beauty and peace are everywhere, even in brief moments of stillness.
“If you are in a beautiful place where you can enjoy sunrise and sunset, then you are living like a lord. ‘ —Nathan Phillips

“I watched the sunset last night. And given the utter brilliance of it, I likely sat in the company of thousands who found themselves awash in its blaze of colors as well. But sadly, it is just as likely that I was surrounded by thousands of others who never saw the colors because they were awash in lesser things. And I realized that far too often I am in the company of those people. Therefore, I’ll be sitting outside tonight.” ― Craig D. Lounsbrough
