The secret joy of Groundhog day

It’s Groundhog Day! A perfect opportunity to make an ordinary day special.

One of the wacky gifts God has given me, is the ability to celebrate the small stuff. Something that was extremely important to me to pass on to my children.

During their childhood, we went through some hard things, and we didn’t have much money. But the joy of creativity allowed us to celebrate silliness. Not just the big holidays, but anything that makes you smile!

Their childhood was full of creativity and celebration. I’m gonna guess that’s what they remember, not that we didn’t have a lot of money.🥰

Three things I tried to give my children… A legacy of faith, that home is FOREVER a safe place of love, and the ability to look for joy in the obscure and mundane.

Life will always have the hard and unexpected.

I hoped that those 3 things would give them a necessary foundation that lifts them through struggles. Keep it simple and find something special as often as you can.❤️

It also brings me great joy, if my husband has a rough day, to come home to the unexpected sometimes. His beautiful smile keeps me always looking for reasons to bring it to the table, leaving the day’s cares behind for a bit.

Groundhog Day is a middle finger to joy stealers

Choosing gratitude for the little things is pure defiance against what tries to bring us down. It’s the finger 🖕🏻 to joy stealers.

I hope that sharing my celebration with you today encourages you to pick simple, ordinary things, and make them fun.

Joy is contagious. And the ability to celebrate the tiniest gifts in our days is instrumental in the appreciation of our lives.

Phil Connors: “This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather.”

PS- on the menu today? Dirt pudding in honor of a little animal peeking out in Punxsutawney, and an evening movie night of “Groundhog Day “

Do you think this sort of thing is lame? Or do you too love to find any reason to celebrate?
