Finding peace in chaos- it was Hidden In The Harvest

The chatter felt endless.

A pounding of voice as the radio and television and printed pages blared bad news. Crushing events. Divided parties.

With each news story, I grew more distracted from the mental preparation I needed for an upcoming event. I don’t know it is for you— when life threatens to tip into an unbalanced state, but I feel uneasy.

Wondering what should have the highest importance right now? Where should my energies be focused?

The weather was glorious and I took my camera along, unsure of where I would use it. Sometimes, though, do you find, that we don’t need to know the details?

We just need to come prepared.

Expectant.

As the sun started to set, I took a detour and chose country roads to go home.

Right. Left. Left. It didn’t matter, the windows were down and the air was fresh and soothing.

Then, there it was. The reason that camera was sitting in the front seat next to me.

Huge combines roared through the fields, flipping around at the end of each row to weave back and forth across the acres.

Pulling over, I got out to watch.

The massive machines harvested rows of soybeans, causing dust to cling to the sun-rays, as they grew long over the fields. Haze under a darkening blue and pink sky.

God spoke to me in this pale, fading sunlight. In the dusty sky, to the tune of his natural symphony, he spoke love and delight into my soul.

As the birds chirped, and the bugs loudly made their presence known, and distant machinery worked in the field, my ears grew deaf to any other sounds.

It was pure, unadulterated peace.

THIS is what your story is. Today, in this place, take pictures. Notice your surroundings. Give thanks for the farmers and the fields and the dusky sky.

That is enough. One page in your story is all that needs to be written today.

Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. James 3:18

And I was glad, so glad to live right here. In this place and participating in this moment. Hidden in the harvest was peace.

Happiness is the harvest of a quiet eye.

Slow down. Listen today and be surprised by what awaits your senses.

Note the profiles in the picture above. You’ll see the outline of a young boy staring out the window. His profile in the setting sun-mimicking the man next to him.

Hopefully, a future farmer himself.
