Can I redefine the words that describe me? Yes!

Can I redefine the words that describe me? Yes!

Letters are popular in the decorating world.

This cute little “C” was hard to resist, with its vintage-inspired lights.

I imagined it being a cheerful addition to my office space.

And it was… until things got a bit hectic as the day cast its last shadows into the room.

Perspective changes things.

In the light, the surprise meanings of the letter C announce words of encouragement. Fun and familiar words. The kind that breeds a positive work environment.

Christa (you know everyone thinks of their name :) Creative. Cultivate. Courage. Confidence.

It can be easy for our perspective to shift radically as our internal enemies try to crowd out those wonderful, life-giving words.

They are replaced.

Criticism. Control. Cry. Condemn. Crush.

The darkness seeps in and moves around letters, replacing the joy with confusion.

But letters are powerful. They can be shuffled as we switch the light back on.

Reworked into the configurations that bring power and hope.

Others don’t own the words that describe me

As a writer, it is hard to put words down and bare your soul through them. Hoping they are understood for their intent. Trying to build a thicker skin when they are not.

You understand this.

I know you do. It doesn’t matter what our work is. We hear the same whispers in the dark.

When the words start to jumble, switch the light of truth on and see them for what they are.

Use words for good. And don’t let the ugly ones stick around in your head. And please, please, don’t let them define you.

Choose the beautiful ones, surround yourself with their caress.

What word will you use today…this week…to build yourself up? Arm yourselves with the good ones. For the last few years, I have focused on courage.

Read this post for a defining moment on choosing courage for me. Share in the comments. Tell me what you hear and how you can redefine one word about yourself?
