What does God say about worrying?

What does God say about worrying?

If such a thing could be calculated, years would be detracted from my life for time wasted worrying. Sometimes it is obvious and comes out with questions that have no answers.

Mostly though, I might seem calm on the outside, but late at night the questions turn inward. And I have no answers. No solutions.

I bet you know what I mean.

Worry is defined as ” to feel anxious about something unpleasant that may have happened or may happen“.

Worry is an evil stepsister of Peace.

Wanting the most attention, to be the one who gets the spotlight.

Peace is content to wait until we are ready.  Worry steals our sanity, Peace restores it.

Good news though, Jesus always beckons us toward Peace.

5 comforting bible verses about worrying

  • Matthew 6:25-34   – Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
  • Matthew 11:28-3 –Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
  • 1 Peter 5:7 –Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:16 – Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
  • John 14:27 –Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

matthew 6:34 worry quotes

How can I calm my worry and anxiety?

The start of every school year gives me a twinge of panic. How will “I” do x, y and z? As if it is true that if I try hard enough, worry enough, I can decide the outcome.

Not this year.  It turns out, “I” run out of my own strength and ability very quickly. Glad for a Heavenly reminder. I, WE, are not in this alone.

So far I’ve made it through the month of September with only one worry meltdown.  And it feels good. Better than good… THIS is the way to live. It is rich and full and brimming with an appreciative attitude.

“Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” Corrie ten Boom

So where is God in my worry?  He isn’t here.

It comes as a whisper, “I’m not there, see? I am ahead leading you out. I am behind nudging you forward.”

Let’s step forward and determine to pursue peace instead of allowing anxiety to interrupt the beautiful antidote to worry God has provided.

  1. Good post, Christa. The subject of my daily devotional this morning was worry and how we should call upon the Lord rather than worrying. I like what you said about worry being the evil stepsister of peace. So true.

    1. Always makes me smile when topics cross over in various places during a day. Thanks for taking time to read it today Joan

  2. Christa, I got anxious just reading your post because I know that “wide awake at night” feeling all too well. I am trying to learn step by step to press into God when I start to worry. “Jesus I am yours, save me,” Martin Luther prayed, and I do too.
